On my first book I foolishly assumed that I could do my own editing…
I’m decently intelligent and have written letters, instruction manuals, proposals and many other things throughout my thirty-year business career. I assumed that I wouldn’t have any problem making sure my manuscript had correct spelling, word usage, and formatting. I was certain that I could write a paragraph that wasn’t confusing or repetitive.
Boy was I wrong…
What I didn’t realize is that after staring at the same pages day after day, month after month, your brain starts glossing over the little errors and you don’t even see them!
It wasn’t until after I published and started getting killed in the reviews for bad punctuation, etc. that I realized my error. After being away from it for a month I went back and read it again and was appalled at all the mistakes!
Take my word for it, you need a fresh set of eyes to critically read your manuscript before you publish. I was fortunate that I had enough positive reviews to somewhat offset the negative, but I am convinced that those initial bad reviews kept me from reaching the #1 Bestseller slot – and that could have been worth tens of thousands of dollars to me (or more)!
As part of our services we will edit your manuscript so you can avoid the same mistakes.
